Qualifications:     

Active PA School Counselor K-12 certification is required.

Master's in counseling, school counseling or a related field is required.

Experience working with high school students in an educational setting.

Familiarity with college admissions process, standardized testing and career assessment tools.

Understanding of ethical guidelines and confidentiality laws related to counseling.

Knowledge of counseling techniques, theories and interventions.

Proficiency in computer applications and student information systems.

 

Description:

The School District of Springfield Township is seeking candidates who possess excellent interpersonal skills, the desire to work with energetic students, and the ability to relate well within the school community.  SDST is committed to diversity in our workplace and welcomes the opportunity to consider all candidates.  This position will be a School Counselor at our high school responsible for providing comprehensive counseling services to students in grades 9-12. The position will support students in their academic, career and personal development, helping them overcome challenges and make informed decisions about their future. 

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral issues.

- Assist students in developing educational and career plans based on their interests, abilities, and goals.

- Provide guidance on course selection, college admissions, scholarship opportunities, and career exploration.

- Assess students' strengths, weaknesses, and needs through interviews, assessments, and observation.

- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop strategies for supporting students' academic and personal growth.

- Coordinate college and career fairs, workshops, and other events to facilitate post-secondary planning.

- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.

- Stay informed about current trends and best practices in counseling and education.

- Participate in professional development activities and continuing education opportunities to enhance counseling skills and knowledge.

 

Terms of employment:     

Full-time, contracted position to be determined in accordance with the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.  Position to begin at the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
