Qualifications:
Previous experience working with students with special needs is preferred.
Must enjoy working with children.
Must be considered highly qualified in the state of PA by completing at least one of the listed requirements below:
a. Have completed at least 2 years of postsecondary study (48 credits) or
b. Possess an associated degree or higher or
c. Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a State or local assessment (Paraeducator Credential of Competence).

Description:
The School District of Springfield Township is seeking candidates with the desire to work with students and the ability to relate well within the school community. SDST is committed to diversity in our workplace and welcomes the opportunity to consider all candidates.
The Instructional Assistant fills a critical role in implementing and serving students with disabilities under the direction of the special education teacher and principal. The Instructional Assistant shall/may complete the following tasks:
- Participate in the implementation of each student’s educational program as outlined in their IEP and according to the schedule and routine of the classroom program.
- Document information regarding the students, including needs, strengths, gains, and problem areas as directed by the teacher (s).
- Assist in maintaining student records.
- Help with clerical work such as correcting assignments and maintaining learning centers and bulletin boards.
- Assist in distributing, collecting and monitoring student work.
- Implement and follow the behavior support plans as provided by the teacher or behavior support staff.
- Escort students to lunch in cafeteria, gymnasium, music classroom, and auditorium for scheduled events.
- Supervise/support students during eating activities, gym activities, emergency drills, assemblies, outdoor recess activities and field trips as needed and directed.
- Provide support to students attending inclusive regular education classes assisting with modifications as directed by the teachers.
- Oversee students while embarking and disembarking from the school bus.
- Participate and maintain skills as needed to assist students with activities using educational technology.
- Participate in meetings to develop and update I.E.P.’ s and Evaluation Reports as requested.
- Attend training sessions, in-service workshops, and update skills as necessary.
- Assist students in activities of daily living and personal care skills, as needed, including physically positioning students as directed, assisting with toileting or assisting with the mobility of students with physical challenges.
Terms of employment:
10-month position following the SDST District calendar. The position would work from 7:45 am-2:45 pm, 6.5 hours with a 30-minute unpaid lunch, 186 days per year.
